The Conference
The aim of IC-FDG-2012 is to further elaborate the model of Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG) as proposed by Kees Hengeveld and J. Lachlan Mackenzie. The course
An intensive course on the theory of Functional Discourse Grammar precedes the conference in order to enable linguists unfamiliar with the theory to prepare for participation in the conference. The course will be organized with doctoral students in mind. The course is taught by Inge Genee and Lachlan Mackenzie. For the course programme see www.functionaldiscoursegrammar.info.
The venue
IC-FDG-2012 will take place in the Bibliotheek Engelse taalkunde (Library English Linguistics), University of Ghent, Rozier 44, B-9000 Ghent, which is at about 20 minutes walking distance from the railway station and 5-10 minutes walking distance from the city centre
Organizing Committee
The members of the Organizing Committee are Gudrun Rawoens (Chair, Ghent University), Miriam Taverniers (Ghent University), and Freek van de Velde (University of Leuven).
Programme Committee
The Programme Committee consists of the following members. Lachlan Mackenzie (Chair, ILTEC and Vrije Universiteit), Inge Genee (University of Lethbridge), and Freek van de Velde (University of Leuven).
Conference programme
The conference programme consists of 26 lectures and posters, a guided visit of the city of Ghent in the afternoon of Thursday 7 June 2012, a conference dinner, to be held on the evening of Thursday 7 June 2012, and a business meeting of the International Functional Grammar Foundation. All sessions will be plenary and will take place in the same lecture room. Lectures will last 30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes’ discussion. The language of the conference will be English.
Registration
Our website www.functionaldiscoursegrammar.info offers an online registration form, which we urge you to complete now. Please click on Events, choose the event(s) you wish to attend, and click on Registration. Complete the form and submit it.
Fees
After registration please pay your fee in advance for the combination of events for which you have registered. All lunches as well as the conference dinner are included in the registration fee. The fees are € 100 for the course, € 130 for the conference, and € 180 for the combination of course and conference. Thanks to a grant received, students from Ghent University will receive a waiver for the course. They pay a supplement of € 50 for the conference. Payment should be made by 25 May, 2012 to bank account BE59390096580026. The recipient is IC FDG 2012, Universiteit Gent, Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 44, 9000 Gent, Belgium. Paying on the spot is possible too, but will lead to an increase of the fee of €20.
